" Dave, Rich, Doug and I left
Ely on Thursday morning and rode the lake trails and the
Tomahawk Trail to the
North Shore State Trail on to Grand
Marais. The trails were in great condition. We stayed in Grand Marais, but I would suggest staying more up the Gunflint
Trail to cut the next day of riding to Atikokan.
The trail from Gunflint Lake
to Atikokan was freshly groomed. We gassed up at Kashabowie and
continued on to Atikokan. Again the trail was in great condition.
We decided to stay two nights
in Atikokan at the White Otter Inn so we could ride more of the trails
around there and also go up to the White Otter Castle. The
Atikokan SnoHo Snowmobile Club were
fantastic! Nine members guided us through some of the most beautiful
landscape, making stops so we could take pictures. They lead us to the
White Otter Castle and proceeded to pull out smokies and buns and pop
and cookies for a lunch on the trail. What a surprise! And how very
enjoyable, making new friends with so many more of the snowmobile
club.
We cleaned up our picnic area
and continued on a maze of wonderful trails. Our stop for dinner was
at Perch Lake Resort. We all enjoyed a great meal and conversation,
then it was back on the trail to our hotel.
For Dave and Rich, they were
so very much impressed with the friendship and hospitality of the
SnoHo Snowmobile Club. All of us were so glad we made the trip and may
very well do it again. By the time we got back to Ely, we had put on
over 630 miles.
