Changing track on
Arctic Cat Crossfire 1000 Sno Pro
[ Please send your report to us! ]
Changing from 1¼ to a 2
inch paddle track
Since most of the North
Shore has many feet of snow in the woods and great opps' for powder
riding off the beaten path, it was time to change tracks. This past
week of bitter cold and extreme wind chill provided an opportunity to
do some maintenance and upgrades to my sled.
The 2008 Arctic Cat
Crossfire 1000SnoPro came standard with an 1 ¼ paddle track. Great for
trail riding and even some powder riding. Now that we've received
quite a bit of snow, it's time to swap tracks. I bought a new
2 inch paddle by Camoplast for
about 575 bucks.
My sled was so cold and
froze over with ice and snow under the hood and under the tunnel, I
had to let it thaw for a few hours before we started to take out the
original track. Some friends I ski and snowmobile with offered their
new heated shop up by Devil Track Lake. While my sled was thawing we
made sure we had the needed tools and beverages and stoked the wood
burner. The temps were plummeting to 30 below and the wind was howling
like a freight train. The frostbite on my face from the weekend of
sledding in 10 below would burn and pound every time I went outside in
the 70 below windchill.
It was my second time
changing a track on an Arctic Cat with the planetary gear system they
call "ACT Drive." Once you know how it comes apart it is
actually a very smart system to disassemble and put back together.
After a few hours we had the 1 ¼ inch track out and the 2 inch paddle
in place. I always wonder how can something you ride in snow and water
get so filthy inside?... our hands were black.
It was so darn cold and
2 in the morning we waited until the next day to adjust and test the
new track. Maybe it was just an excuse to get together another night
and sit around the fire and consume beers, oh well... it was worth the
sweat and beat up hands. Warmer temps are expected for the weekend and
I can't wait to rip the place up with my new 2 inch paddle!
